Guillotine

Founded by Lisa Jaffe in 2007, Guillotine is a pioneering South African design house where craft and intuition come together. Modern minimalist lines, meticulous tailoring and softly sculptural forms define clothing that celebrates contemporary bodies. Grounded in ethical and sustainable practices, each piece balances thoughtful craftsmanship, self-expression and enduring design. Through collaborations with diverse creatives, Guillotine extends fashion beyond clothing, creating platforms for artistic exchange, distinctive perspectives and contemporary African design.

Guillotine

At the heart of Guillotine is an intuitive understanding of the relationship between clothing and the body. Tailoring creates modern, three-dimensional lines, while carefully chosen fabrics guide shape, movement and volume. Print, texture and unexpected detail bring a distinct character to each collection, resulting in clothes that feel expressive yet enduring. Unbound by passing trends and designed to be lived in, interpreted and made personal by the wearer. Inspired by Johannesburg, Guillotine produces curated ready-to-wear collections in limited editions. Exceptional craftsmanship, considered finishes and high-quality fabrications reflect a slower, more thoughtful approach to design. The brand works closely with local artisans, skilled makers and small creative teams, placing collaboration and enduring relationships at the centre of its ethical practice.
Collaboration also extends Guillotine beyond the conventional boundaries of fashion. Lisa Jaffe has worked with photographers, musicians, artists, printmakers, filmmakers, architects, interior designers, textile designers and performers to explore clothing through film, installation, live performance and conceptual presentations. Guillotine has also presented numerous collections at South African Fashion Week. These exchanges bring additional layers of meaning to the garments, transforming fashion into a space for artistic dialogue and individual expression. The Johannesburg flagship continues this vision, bringing Guillotine together with a considered community of South African designers and creative partners.
