Each coat is made using one genuine Basotho traditional blanket, hand-cut, meticulously produced with hand-stitched finishes. Our signature cut has no side seams / we avoid cutting into the blanket keeping its integrity, form, and symbolism intact. Each woven blanket motif carries specific symbolic meanings.
We specifically use the Kharetsa blanket weave which is inspired by the spiral aloe endemic to the Maluti Mountains in Lesotho. This central image is surrounded by the shield motif and iconic Basotho hat.
This gender-fluid, oversized straight cut is unfitted and can be worn closed (revealing the shield-like motif) or open with the last press stud closure (revealing our hidden lapel-styled coat). This investment coat is a timeless statement piece with a fascinating history behind the evolution of the Basotho blanket.
